The Company - Socially Responsible Entrepreneurship

KAITE is a private company with outlets in Zimbabwe and Germany, engaged in sustainable social entrepreneurship through the cultivation, production, authentication, processing, exporting, and marketing of high quality organic products for the local and international market.

Through our emphasis on the organic production of herbs, spices, medicinal, and aromatic plants, as well as staple foods, we ensure that small-scale farmers escape the vicious cycle of heavy reliance on imported inputs, unsustainable methods of farming, volatile produce markets, low producer prices, and lack of marketing.

KAITE has the following key objectives:

  • Engage in sustainable business practices which draw upon indigenous knowledge systems and build on existing networks
  • Produce high quality, fair trade products derived from herbs, spices, medicinal, and aromatic plants, such as essential oils
  • Generate foreign currency and increase food security by growing organically staple foods, such as maize, wheat, sorghum, and soya beans
  • Assist farmers with training and organic certification
  • Reduce farmers’ reliance on expensive imported chemical inputs
  • Market and distribute products in partnership with small farmers, thus generating employment and income for the producers themselves
  • Build upon in-depth knowledge already gained in organic production in Zimbabwe and foster future partners on the international scene.

The Trust

Our vision is, ultimately, to raise the social and economic living standards of small farmers in Zimbabwe. The KAITE Trust includes experts from the fields of conventional and organic agriculture, international development economics, and marketing.

The KAITE Trust is engaged in the following community activities:

  • Provision of nurseries and schooling for the children of the participant farming communities
  • Assistance to their local orphanages
  • HIV/AIDS counselling and treatment for the farmers and their families
  • Income and employment generation through our value-adding processing, particularly for female-headed households

To ensure that the social needs of the communities involved are met effectively, we believe that they must participate actively in the identification and administrating of any social programmes we commit ourselves to. The synergy arising from these efforts, which are supported by our partners’ skills and experience in providing appropriate social services (Kufunda and Silveira House), will drive the eventual devolution of full responsibility for the programmes to the communities themselves.
