KAITE Trust
Our vision is, ultimately, to raise the social and economic living standards of small-scale producers in Zimbabwe, particularly women, through working relationships that are based on cooperation and empowerment. Our focus on organic farming and sustainable wild collection reflects our long-term commitment to conservation agriculture in Zimbabwe, through eliminating the improper use of agro-chemicals and the subsequent reversal of land degradation. KAITE Trust also recognises that the best way to ensure continual economic growth is to enhance lasting social structures within the farming communities it cooperates with. In this way, KAITE Trust is engaged in the following community activities:
- Training in sustainable livelihoods
- Assisting with the schooling of partners farmers’ children
- Supporting the increasing number of orphans within the farming communities
- HIV and AIDS prevention and care for the farmers and their families
- Income and employment generation through value-adding processing, particularly for female-headed households
The KAITE Trust supports orphans aged four to eighteen. These children live in dire conditions in extended or in child-headed families. Some of them are already HIV positive and need special care. KAITE Trust provides school fees and uniforms, helps to source drugs and pays the necessary consultation fees for the HIV-positive children. Together with the orphans, KAITE Trust has established an organic garden where they can grow their own vegetables, as well as aromatic plants, which KAITE helps them to process and market.
